Community thanks, as Booligal community become proud owners of St Albans Church
Dear Tertia,
On behalf of the Booligal Community and St Albans Community Church Committee, I write to alert you and the broader community that we are now officially the proud owners of St Albans Community Church.
We wish to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who generously gave donations, thus enabling us to purchase St Albans from the Anglican Diocese of Riverina.
The selfless contributions given by Hay and Booligal community folk guarantees that St Albans will remain a church and not a pig shooter hunting lodge.
We would like to thank The Riverine Grazier for your wonderful media coverage; we are sure this helped us in our negotiations with the Bishop. Also thank you to Mr David Webb General Manager Hay Shire Council for your support and guidance.
With your support we are now able to turn our eyes to the future and that is to make sure St Albans remains open and accessible to any religious groups wishing to hold a service and visit the village of Booligal.
We look forward to many more years of weddings, baptisms and services.
In closing we would like to take a moment to honour the pioneers of the Booligal district who matched the Marriott bequest of a hundred pounds to build St Albans and to those who have maintained St Albans since February 1899. It is the second oldest building in the village of Booligal.
Once again thank you for your generosity and unwavering support.
The purchase of St Albans Community Church is a victory not just for those who worship in the church but the entire Hay and Booligal community; it demonstrates what can be achieved.
Thank you for allowing us space in The Riverine Grazier.
With deepest gratitude and thanks,
Jenny Sheaffe (pictured above).
